Meet Nicky Gordon, Continuous Improvement Manager at Covetrus UK. Based in Dumfries, Nicky tells us about his love of FC Barcelona, his golden lab, and his daughter!
Favourite book?
The only books I’ve ever read from start to finish belong to my 3-year-old daughter at bedtime. If we’re talking books in film format, you can’t beat a bit of Harry Potter!
What are your desert island discs?
Ed Sheeran, Michael Bublé and Elton John…Steps sneak in there, too!
What can’t you live without?
A big thumbs up from my daughter before I go to work…and squishes (sweet tooth)!
What issues do you want to fix for our veterinary practices, and internally at Covetrus?
I believe all processes that we play a part in can be improved, and although we want to always seek a better way of doing things, it’s important that we don’t let perfection stand in the way of progress.
What does a day in work look like for you, Nicky?
My role is to help identify, manage and deliver change by working with all associates to provide process progression at pace.
What continuous improvement programmes are you working on at the moment?
Supporting the rollout and embedment of our new ways of working is my top priority at present, and we’ve just taken on our second batch of CI champions.
What did you do before joining Covetrus?
Chartered manager and lean six sigma black belt with 10 years’ business improvement experience across multiple sectors and continents.
How would your colleagues and pals describe you?
Dynamic, organised and creative from my colleagues….hard work from my wife!
How do you describe yourself?
I’d agree with my colleagues: organised, first and foremost – I like to have a plan. Driven, family orientated and I’d be lying if I didn’t include fashionable. 😊
What do you like about working at Covetrus?
A company where all wish to change, and although sometimes challenging, all are willing to give it a go.
Biggest fear / greatest love?
Messi retiring…he’s tattooed on the arm! / FC Barcelona.
Any pets?
Maisie, 9-year-old golden Labrador…although she now lives with my parents since I worked away from home and they won’t give her back!
What values drive you?
If papa would be proud, that’s good enough for me.
When you’re not working you’ll be found…
Watching a good box set, or out with the fam!
